Yellow Royal Poinciana

Thought to be one of the most beautiful tropical trees in the world. From Madagascar it gets about 20' tall with a spreading crown and very showy yellow flowers in the summer. This member of the legume family is winter dormant. Full sun. This species is usually red. It loves sun and heat. Can grow in Southern California in certain hot, frost free spots, but it is rare there, as it may take many years to bloom. Popular in the tropics, such as Florida and Hawaii, especially on the dry side of the islands (West), but will bloom on the wet side (east) if given enough heat. These are seed grown trees, there wasn't a orange of the species around, so the will most likely be yellow like the mother plant, but I don't know the strength of the genetics of this genus, some genera are very true, others are not as stable. If someone knows more definitively, please let me know.
