Evergreen Hydrangea

This elegant evergreen shrub from the Himalayas is closely related to Hydrangeas. It grows 5’ - 8’ tall and wide. The broad 4" cone-like flowers are either pink, lavender or blue, depending on the soil pH, acid produces blue. Blooms pink under alkaline conditions. Flowers are produced in late winter through fall. Best in shade and well amended soil. Tolerates some sun in more humid climates. Can be laced out or tipped to encourage bushiness. Very elegant and refined compared to old fashioned big leaf hydrangeas. Does well in the Hawaii, but is cold hardy down to 20 F. In very cold conditions it can lose it's leaves, but will re-sprout from woody branches. Gets in pots. Really pretty flanking an entry on the north or east side.
