Hymenosporum flavum

Sweetshade Tree

An evergreen tree from Eastern Australian with fragrant golden flowers in spring and summer. The tall (to 30’ or more) narrow tree has shiny foliage with an open branching habit. The tree is related to the common Pittosporum. Can be wobbly as a young tree and should be loosely staked until well rooted. Heading back cut while a small tree greatly improves the structure. Easily grown from seed. Drought tolerant once established. One of my favorite trees, naturally open, fragrant, great foliage, it should definitely be used more.
