Henna Plant

The henna plant is the source of the dye used throughout history for dying silk, leather, wood and of course hair, nails and skin. Most popular as henna tattoos, which basically dye the skin surface and fade over time. Evergreen with 1" long oval leaves, the shrub can grow to 10' or more, easily kept smaller. Dislikes temps below 50 F. A powder is make from the dried leaves and mixed with an acid like lemon juice and applied to the skin. Best grown in full sun, not picky about soil, but it should be well drained. Grows well in containers.
