Leycesteria formosa

Himalayan Honeysuckle

A perennial shrub from the Himalayas, arching to 10’ with smallish white flowers with rosy purple bracts clustered at tips in summer. Full sun or part shade, surprisingly easy to grow, even in hotter, drier climates. Birds love the berries in the late summer. Can reseed in the garden, may be invasive in certain climates, do your research for your area. I love this plant, it adds so much to the garden with such an interesting form and showy inflorescence. Likes filtered sun, but will grow in full sun with enough water. Can be pruned hard to a couple of feet to rejuvenate if it gets too unruly. In colder climates, mulch heavy and it will re-sprout from the roots in the spring. Can bloom year round in mild climates.
