Carmona microphylla (Ehretia buxifolia)

Fukien Tea Bonsai Tree

A Southeast Asian shrub, popular for Bonsai. Grown for its small shiny foliage, peeling bark and small white flower, followed by small dark red berries. In the ground it can get about 9' tall. Part shade when young, best with rich amended soil and regular water. Will tolerate a light frost. Can go deciduous in cold winters, a hard freeze may kill it. Evergreen in milder climates. It's general habit is somewhat arching and makes a very pretty shrub or container plant. In the Borage family. Syn.  Ehretia buxifolia. Fukien tea is very sensitive to insecticides, and Diazinon will kill the tree. We had this incorrectly identiufiec as Sageretia theezans previously.
