Tipu Tree

This is large spreading shade tree from South America can grow to 40'. It's usually wider than it is tall. Excellent for creating fast shade in areas poor soil and drought conditions, although is does very well with regular water as well.  Subtle gold flowers in summer, briefly deciduous Feb-Mar. Very Drought tolerant, excellent structure, needs some pruning when young to set structure. The tree has shallow roots, which make it a bad pick for a tree near sidewalks or patios. And the wood is not particularly strong, and can be damaged in strong winds. Keep laced and opened up so wind can go through the tree, also if the tree is grown on the dry side the wood has better density. Hardy to the low 20's F.
