Ficus benghalensis

True Banyan Fig

This is the true Banyan Fig from India. It’s a very large and impressive species, known for its massive trunk and expansive wide crown. It produces aerial roots that grow downward from the branches, eventually reaching the ground and rooting to form a complex, connected forest-like structure. Over time, this growth habit allows the Banyan fig to spread extensively, potentially occupying the area of an entire city block. Mature plants can be 90’ tall as well, usually smaller in cultivation. The tree features broad, waxy green leaves that typically measure around 6 inches long and 5 inches wide. When provided with bright light, it can also be successfully cultivated as a houseplant, making it a versatile choice for indoor greenery.
