Hibiscus rosa-sinensis (Akaka Falls)
Small pink flower, with a darker shade toward the center and a lovely bleed at the petal edge, which is a soft, pale pink. This particular specimen was collected at Akaka Falls, located just north of Hilo, Hawaii. While we don’t know the exact cultivar name, we believe it’s a very attractive variety, featuring both interesting foliage and charming flowers.
Thriving best in full sun with ample air circulation, this shrub benefits from regular feeding, which encourages vigorous and healthy growth throughout the season. Easy to cultivate, it is a favored option among tropical evergreen shrubs due to its adaptability and appealing aesthetics. It prefers warm environments and abundant sunlight, and it gains the most from a watering routine that allows the soil to dry out slightly in between. For optimal plant health, maintaining good air flow and consistent nutrient feeding is highly recommended. While generally hardy, this variety can tolerate only light frost, so in regions with colder winters, some protective measures may be necessary to ensure its survival and continued vigor.
