Orange Iochroma

Fast growing tropical shrubs with pendent clusters of light orange flowers. Shrubier than Iochroma cyaneum, which it look very similar to. These popular plants are related to Brugmansias, the angels trumpets. Feed and prune regularly for the best growth. Can grow to 10’, they look best with some shaping, they can be gangly when young. Loved by hummingbirds. Easily damaged by frost, but they usually recover quickly. Even in colder climates they can die to the ground, but will recover from the roots, especially if heavily mulched. In areas with a hard freeze, it's best to take cuttings in the fall and overwinter indoors. While plants grow very fast with heat they well in cooler climates as well.
