Giant Hibiscus
A large tree in the Hibiscus family from high elevation Puerto Rico (2,000') to 50' with bright red flowers. Used as an ornamental as well as a timber tree. Grows fast, takes pruning well. Grows fast.
The flower of the tree, known as flor de maga, is the official national flower of Puerto Rico. It is sometimes called a hibiscus in English, although it belongs to a different genus, and species from the true hibiscus and is more closely related to Cotton. Syn.Thespesia grandiflora
