Evergreen Coral Tree
A large, highly desirable species from Peru with red-orange sickle like flowers produced in cascading racemes in the spring. There are slow to bloom and may take up to 7 years, but once established are very reliable bloomers. Cutting grown plants are much quicker to bloom. Hardy to 27 F. Full sun. Somewhat gall resistant, a problem in Hawaii. This boy gets big, up to 50’ or more. The trunks have sharp thorns, even so the overall form is stunning. Somewhat rare. These plants were grown from seed.
