Pinanga coronata

Ivory Cane Palm

A very handsome clumping palm native to the rainforests of Sumatra, Java, and Sulawesi. A highly variable species that now includes P. kuhli as a selection, often treated as Pinanga coronata var. kuhli. This particular plant comes from higher elevations and prefers a warm, sheltered location. New growth emerges bronzy, with crown shafts that are cream-colored and the upper portions flushed a soft peach; the trunk displays distinct ringed markings. Easy to grow, it reaches about 24 feet tall. Hanging seed bracts are orange and hold small reddish-brown seeds.
