Fragrant Purple Air Plant

Tropical plants from Central America. This miniature species has an airy clumping habit with fine gray foliage. It like bright light (full sun okay with enough humidity), good air circulation. Small, numerous purple flowers are fragrant . Very showy, easy to grow. Best outdoors, but can be grown indoors under the right conditions.

These are epiphytic plants related to bromeliads that need no soil and grow just from moisture in the air and passing rain. Easy to grow, they want air circulation with some moisture, especially in drier areas. Tolerate a light frost well, but can freeze in a colder climate. Can be grown indoors if given ample light and air circulation. Will adapt to full sun, best in bright shade. Outdoors without rain, I try and hose down about three times a week, they will tolerate drought though. If they get very dry, they can be rehydrated by submerging in water for an hour. Indoors they can be misted daily if the air is dry.
