A Mexican (Baja) species that is quite easy to grow and care for. It features a distinctive swollen base, called a caudex, which serves as a specialized water storage adaptation to help the plant survive drought conditions. This plant grows slowly, typically reaching up to 30’ in height, though it often remains much smaller. The simple leaves are a grayish-green color, thick in texture, with a prominent midrib running down the center and a soft, fuzzy underside. It performs exceptionally well when grown in a pot and is also an excellent choice for a tropical bonsai display.
