Pinwheel Gardenia
A gardenia species with single simple white flowers. It's easier to grow than the G. jasminides selections in cooler regions of the country. A strongly angular branched shrub to 5’ by 5’ with an upright habit. The small single white fragrant flowers are borne in the warmest months, or year round in more tropical climates. Best in the sun, likes amended soil and regular feeding, especially in the summer. The species name came from the label on the plant when it was bought at a Quail Gardens sale many years ago, but I have not found it referenced anywhere. It is definitely different and I haven't seen it anywhere else. So for now I'm leaving as is, unless someone can contact me an let me know the proper name. Possibly from Vietnam or Thailand, and maybe a selection of Kailarsenia lineata. Very unclear.
