Costus stenophyllus

A tight clumping ginger from Costa Rica with brown and light green banding on the narrow, closely set stems. Small curled leaves and to the bamboo look. The red and yellow bulbous flowers arise from the root in a snake like fashion. Full sun or part shade, regular moisture. Really pretty, even when not in bloom. Can be grown from cuttings or division. The flowers have short stems and can be used in small arrangements, but more common is to use the stems, which as a bonus hold there color when dried.
