Hibiscus storckii (H. cooperi 'Nasilai Pink')

Probably one of the ancestors to the modern hibiscus hybrids. Discovered and named by a botanist visiting the Fiji in the 1800s. Expeditions to the island since, have not located any surviving examples. The flowers are pink and white, and the bush is small, full, and well-branched.

Note, new info: Has been correctly identified as Hibiscus cooperi 'Nasilai Pink'. Hibiscus cooperi, a native species from Erromango, Vanuatu, and which our DNA studies suggest is the ancestor of the 10 red and white-flowered Hibiscus species in Hawaii!

This form of Hibiscus cooperi 'Nasilai Pink' was sent from Hawaii to Kew by an amateur collector under the incorrect name of Hibiscus storckii and the misnomer has been widely perpetuated.
