Epidendrum 'Salmon Pink'
Epidendrum 'Salmon Pink'
Reed Stem Orchids
These are true orchids, but maybe the easiest to grow of all.
This selection has light salmon pink flowers with a yellow bird, it's very free flowering grows to about 5', but it can get larger with time.
They grow with tall stems topped with clusters of long blooming flowers at the tips, the stems have alternating waxy leaves just under the flowers all the way to the bottom of the stems. These are usually grow terrestrially, but can be grown epiphytically with enough moisture. They can be grown in full sun, but part sun is okay as well. Great as a potted plant. Grow in bark for good drainage. These like regular water and feeding, but do tolerate some abuse. Easily grown from the keikis (small plant offshoots, Hawaiian for babies) produced off older stems. These tolerate only the lightest of frosts, best to protect if cold is expected. Hail can also damage the foliage, many people grow them under an overhang or under shade cloth to protect them.
