Tropical Camellia Species

Asian evergreen shrubs characterized by their dark green, glossy foliage. This particular species produces single red flowers that are slightly notched at the tips, adding a subtle detail to their appearance. It thrives best in shaded areas with well-amended, nutrient-rich soil. Blooming occurs from May through February, resulting in an exceptionally long flowering season. The plant has a compact, upright growth habit, reaching up to 12 feet in height. It is sensitive to being planted too deeply, which can affect its health. Native to Guangdong Province in China, it naturally grows in a warm, moist climate. Unfortunately, this species is critically endangered in its native habitat.
