Fagraea berteroana
Pua Kenikeni
Subtropical shrub, it's usually best in tropical locations. I've tried it in Southern California, but was never successful. Native to the South Pacific. Large waxy foliage on an open large shrub or small tree. It can grow to 20', but is usually much smaller, it grows relatively slowly. The intoxicating fragrant tubular flowers are a light golden yellow and used in lei making. Common name means ten-cent flower. In ancient times only the Hawaiian royalty could where this. My favorite flower in lei making, the fragrance seems to always say aloha to me. The leis even dry nicely.
