A Japanese woodland native with very small leaves with a slight white variegation and small light pink flowers. The plant is very floriferous and showy.  It is hardy to just above freezing temperatures, making it suitable for mild climates. This plant makes a lovely addition to the garden as a sub-shrub and can be grown similarly to an Azalea. It typically reaches about 2 feet tall and wide, maintaining a compact and attractive form. It is an excellent choice for bonsai due to its appropriate scale and shape. It thrives best in part shade with regular watering. Good drainage is essential, and the soil should be kept evenly moist to support healthy growth. This plant grows well here in Hawaii, performed well in California, but it does not tolerate conditions that are too hot or dry.
