Scarlet Comb

A semi-evergreen vining shrub from Madagascar with the most unusual summer flowers resemble sprays of thin red brushes and appear in abundant clusters at the tips. Makes a great espalier in formal plantings. Thrives in full sun or part shade. A beautiful climber with masses of small, bright red, star-shaped flowers in large panicles and foliage of luxuriant, glossy dark green. With proper pruning it can be used as an isolated specimen in parks and gardens or trained as a climber to create living barriers and to cover fences and pergolas. Commonly known as Scarlet Comb, family Combretaceae.
