Variegated Shrub Bougainvillea
A shrubby mostly thornless bougainvillea to 10’. Naturally it has an upright arching habit. This versatile plant makes a stunning espalier or can be grown as a free-standing shrub, or even a small tree with age. This form has a great bold golden variegation along the leaf edge, very cool. The showy, colorful soft red bracts that appear at the tips of the branches, adding a lovely touch to any garden. The plant also laces out beautifully, creating an elegant, natural display.
To encourage a more abundant and consistent blooming cycle, it’s crucial to maintain the plant on the drier side, carefully avoiding excessive watering which can hinder flower production. Looks great trained along a fence or gracefully allowed to spill over a sunny wall. Thriving best in full sun conditions, bougainvilleas requires ample sunlight to produce vibrant and prolific blooms throughout the entire growing season. They thrive in intense heat and sunlight, showing adaptability to virtually any soil type, provided there is good drainage to prevent root issues. Keep in mind that bougainvilleas have sharp thorns, so thoughtful and strategic placement is essential to avoid any potential injuries or damage. While these plants are relatively carefree once mature, younger specimens often benefit from regular fertilizer applications to promote healthy growth and set the stage for a flourishing future.
